Violence among Youths

•
The advent of violence today in Nigeria can not be over-emphasized without looking into the damage done to the growth of the economy. The outbreak of sudden violence which sometimes becomes uncontrollable by security agencies within the country has drawn the attention of global community on this part of the African continent. To this, violence in Nigeria has made the country economically unbalanced
The youths are not left out in the outbreak of violence. A sizeable number of youths today in Nigeria have become epitome of violence. These set of people are ruthless, heartless and deadly. This is what they know how to do best. They see violence as a profession. They feed on violence daily. And this is particularly worrisome as it causes a great threat to the Government, individual lives, families, Organizations and various institutions. To the Niger-Deltans, violence is a mere event that occurs on a daily basis. The youths within the region get involved in violence to make a living. Various youth groups in the region, whose main aim is to fight injustice for its affected members, are not left out. These groups have now turned into militant groups whose aim is to fight for justice in unruly acts. They now engage in kidnapping, cultism and vandalizing of petroleum pipelines. To this, the Federal Government has made some move in curbing the displayed acts of these miscreants by sending the Joint Task force (JTF) to the region and also the creation of the Niger-Delta Ministry that they say will see to the implementation of the region’s master plan. This seems to be a great effort made by the Federal Government. The question is; will this bring a lasting solution to the region? Can a problem ever be solved without first identifying the cause of the problem? The militancy of these groups is still a threat to the economy if the cause is not identified
But what could be the cause of their militancy? What could have resulted to the major cause of the violence? This brings to mind the advents of military coups experienced in the country in the past. Politically, the leaders are major cause of the problems. Their greedy governance has put corruption on the high side, thus making various states and communities under-developed, living no room for the trace of quality education, high rate of productivity in the various sectors, good health services, availability of agricultural farm produce, good road network, safe drinking water and what we are still hoping to experience a turn around the energy and power. This has placed the country in anguish and Violence is on the high. The government, institutions, organizations and families need to answer to the wake-up call to bring our country to map as one of the best economy in the world. Every one of us has a role to play to bring about peace in our country.
PRECIOUS AIGBIREMHON
